Philippe IV (ou Felipe IV en espagnol), né à Valladolid le 8 avril 1605 et mort à Madrid le 17 septembre 1665, dit le Grand ou le « roi-Planète », est roi des Espagnes et des Indes après la mort de son père Philippe III d'Espagne, du 31 mars 1621 à sa mort. Il porta également les titres de roi des Deux-Siciles, roi de Portugal et souverain des Pays-Bas.

Les toutes premières années du règne de Philippe IV virent le renforcement de la prééminence des Habsbourg en Europe, mais les guerres constantes qu'il dut mener conduisirent au déclin de la monarchie espagnole. Cependant, si l'Histoire l'a retenu comme un piètre homme politique, Philippe IV compte parmi les plus grands mécènes et les plus grands collectionneurs de son temps.

Elisabeth of France, also known as Isabel or Elisabeth of Bourbon (22 November 1602 – 6 October 1644) was Queen of Spain from 1621 to her death and Queen of Portugal from 1621 to 1640, as the first spouse of King Philip IV & III. She served as regent of Spain during the Catalan Revolt in 1640–42 and 1643–44. As the mother of the Queen of France Maria Theresa, wife of Louis XIV, she was the great-grandmother of the Duke of Anjou, who became king of Spain as Philip V. Through her daughter, Elisabeth is the progenitor of the Spanish branch of the House of Bourbon, which still rules over Spain to this day, as all future kings of Spain after the War of Spanish Succession descend from her. She's also the ancestor of the current Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Guillaume V, through both the Bourbon-Parma collateral branch of the Spanish royal family and the main branch of Bourbon dynasty.

Maria Anna von Habsburg (spanisch: Mariana de Austria; * 23. Dezember 1634 in Wiener Neustadt; † 16. Mai 1696 in Madrid) war durch Heirat mit Philipp IV. von 1649 bis 1665 Königin von Spanien und von 1665 bis 1675 während der Minderjährigkeit ihres Sohnes Karl II. Regentin von Spanien.
